Watching You Eat in the Nude While the Television Is On
I see poached eggs on a white plate,
yellow when you dip the corner of toast into yolk.
The first commercial of our day
advertises knee-high socks and Reeboks.
Frayed laces with no bows, a pile of dirty shoes
in the center of our living room,
short socks shoved into each heel,
below the ankle.
To stand in them is comfortable.
We both know this.
Outside, the roots of one tree are exposed.
They twist above ground then dip back into the earth.
A spray of flowers attach in the curve of each root.
